In case you missed it, we recently participated in AFWERX Fusion, an event hosted by AFWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Air Force. The annual event focuses on connecting industry, individual innovators, academia, investors, military, and government team members. This year’s theme centered around the Base of the Future and brought together key players working alongside the Air Force to foster innovation in technology and mission effectiveness.

In a panel titled “Multi-faceted Utility of Digital Twins,” Dr. San Gunawardana, CEO of Enview, spoke with Dr. Ryan Measel, CEO of Fantasmo.io, about the application of digital twins in defense technology now and in the future. Digital twins are virtual 3D representations of physical objects and places, and can be used to run simulations that accurately reflect the physical world. As San and Ryan explore in the panel, the emergence of digital twins is opening up many new opportunities, not just in defense, but also in the fields of energy, medicine, and AI.

The panelists were well-versed on the topic of digital twins and offered up interesting insights and anecdotes. San founded Enview in 2015 with a mission to harness AI to create a living 3D model of the physical world. Before founding Enview, San completed a PhD on ML/AI at Stanford and then spent time embedded with U.S. forces in Afghanistan working with data analytics and remote sensing to detect threats and prevent incidents. Dr. Ryan Measel is the founder of Fantasmo.io, an end-to-end platform for creating digital twins and integrating them into end applications.

Enview’s work with the U.S. Air Force

Enview has been engaged in ongoing work creating digital twins with the U.S. Air Force. Enview was selected as one of the most promising small businesses in the defense market and awarded a strategic financing contract from the U.S. Air Force’s AFVentures Strategic Financing (STRATFI) program. Additionally, Enview was awarded an Air Force Phase II SBIR to automatically exploit airborne LiDAR for the purpose of route-navigation determination and infrastructure assessment for Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). Enview was further awarded an Air Force Phase II SBIR to enhance the Contingency Response Mission of Air Mobility Command (AMC) in post-disaster areas and HA/DR mission. Enview is also working with Air Combat Combat (ACC) to support Adaptive Basing needs and anticipates being deployed at upcoming ABMS exercises.
